Although the country has nowhere near the purchasing power of the larger Latin American countries, Uruguay is still worth keeping an eye on. Out of all countries in this region, Uruguay is the most internet connected country and the second most likely country to shop online.
Like most of Latin America, Uruguay is primarily a Spanish speaking country, even though their Spanish tends to have an Italian influence because of immigrants from that country. Since Uruguay borders Brazil to the north, there are also smaller populations of Portuguese speaking residents. The business community often speaks some English, but Spanish is still the most widely used language.
Their residents are projected to spend $100 million online through e-commerce annually within four years, nearly twice their current level.
